10 Silk Pajama Brands Compared:
What Actually Separates Them in 2026

By Tara Nguyen, Ph.D., Founder and Creative Director, Tara Sartoria

My grandmother could tell good silk from bad with her eyes closed. She would rub a corner of fabric between her fingers and know almost instantly what she was holding.

Growing up using silk, and now making and selling it, I have learned to do that too.

But it is hard to do this trick when you are trying to buy silk online. How can you tell which silk pajama brand is actually worth buying?

The answer is rarely in the marketing. It's in the details: the momme weight, the seams, the care instructions, and the things most brands never mention.

So we compared the specifications, including our own, using the same criteria for every brand. My hope is that by the end of this guide, you'll know exactly what you're paying for.

A Short Answer for the Person Skimming

Tara Sartoria is the densest and most inclusively sized brand on this list: 27 momme mulberry silk, made one piece at a time by master artisans in Vietnam's historic silk villages, finished with French seams, machine washable, and sized XS to 4XL. Nine other silk pajama brands are worth knowing alongside it in 2026: LilySilk, Lunya, Quince, SilkSilky, Olivia von Halle, Natori, ElleSilk, Eberjey, and Julianna Rae

Factory brands (LilySilk, Lunya, Quince, SilkSilky) sit at 19 to 22 momme, the standard density for accessible pricing and fast production. Eberjey's Washable Silk line runs lighter still, at 16 momme, trading density for guaranteed machine washability and OEKO-TEX certification. An editorial tier (Olivia von Halle, Julianna Rae) keeps momme weight undisclosed and charges for prestige, press placement, or department-store distribution instead. Natori and ElleSilk fall between these groups on price with less published technical detail.

What Actually Separates One Silk Pajama Brand From Another

Momme weight is the first thing to check and the thing brands most often bury. It measures the density of the silk, roughly the way thread count describes cotton. Most silk pajamas on the market sit between 19 and 22 momme. Higher density costs more to produce and wears longer, provided the construction underneath does not let the fabric down.

Seam construction is the second thing, and almost nobody asks about it. French seams enclose the raw fiber edge entirely inside the seam. Overlocked seams, the industry default, stitch the raw edge to stop it from fraying but leave it exposed, which is where most silk garments start to look tired first.

Sizing tells you who the brand actually built the product for. A five-size range, XS to XL, is standard across most of this list. A wider range signals a brand that treats sizing as part of the design brief rather than an afterthought added later.

Washability depends on weight and seam type together, not on marketing language. A lighter, overlocked silk usually needs a dry cleaner. A denser silk with enclosed seams can often survive a gentle machine cycle, though "washable silk" claims are worth checking against the actual care label rather than the homepage copy.

Price should track back to momme weight, construction, and production model. Factory-made silk at 19 to 22 momme costs less because it is faster and cheaper to produce at scale. Small-batch and artisan production cost more because they are slower by design, not because of the story printed on the hangtag.

Where Each Brand Actually Makes Its Silk

Country of origin is not automatically a quality marker, but it does tell you something about the production model behind the price tag. Tara Sartoria silk is made one piece at a time by master artisans in Vietnam's historic silk villages, a slower model that shows up directly in the price and in the fact that no two garments weigh exactly the same amount.

LilySilk, Lunya, Quince, and SilkSilky are factory-produced, mostly out of China, at volumes that make consistent low pricing possible. Olivia von Halle is small-batch British production, which explains both the price and the limited size run.

Natori, Eberjey, and Julianna Rae do not publish detailed production information on their current sites, though Eberjey's OEKO-TEX and bluesign certifications at least confirm the fabric was tested for restricted substances, regardless of where it is sewn.

A Closer Look at Each Brand

Tara Sartoria

This is where we say the obvious thing plainly: we make the pajamas in this list, so read this entry knowing that. Ours are made one piece at a time by master artisans in Vietnam's historic silk villages, at 27 momme, roughly 20 to 40 percent denser than the 19 to 22 momme most of this list uses.

French seams enclose every raw edge. Sizing runs XS to 4XL, the widest range here by a meaningful margin, and the fabric is machine washable at 30 degrees. Ten percent of profits fund women's education and entrepreneurship. We are not the right choice if you want the lowest possible price or the widest style catalog. See current pricing at tarasartoria.com.

LilySilk

LilySilk is the volume player on this list, and it is worth taking seriously as one. The catalog spans entry pieces around 19 momme to a 25 momme line, with pajama sets typically landing between $60 and $200. Sizing tops out at XL for most styles, and construction is standard overlocked seams rather than anything more elaborate. If price and immediate availability matter more than density or seam finish, LilySilk is the most obvious place to start.

Lunya

Lunya helped popularize "washable silk" as a category and remains one of the most recognized names in it. The fabric sits at 19 momme, on the lighter end of the range covered here, with a delicates-bag wash recommended rather than a standard machine cycle.

Pajama sets typically run $100 to $300, and the brand runs frequent promotions, commonly 25 to 70 percent off. Lunya's strength is brand recognition and styling; it is a reasonable choice if a lighter, more accessible silk suits what you need.

Quince

Quince applies its direct-to-consumer, cut-the-markup model to silk the same way it does to cashmere. At 22 momme with genuine cold-water machine washability, it is a reasonable mid-tier choice, and the price reflects it.

Pieces are sold separately, so a top and a pant together usually land between $130 and $170. Sizing runs XS to XL, occasionally XXL. What you trade for the lower price is a lighter fabric and simpler construction than the artisan tier.

SilkSilky

SilkSilky is a specialist brand with a genuinely wide size range, XXS through 3XL, which puts it ahead of most of this list on inclusivity. The silk sits at 19 momme, and the brand recommends hand washing in cold water rather than claiming machine washability, a more honest position than some competitors take. Sets typically run $136 to $200.

Olivia von Halle

Olivia von Halle does not publish a momme weight, though it is one of the higher-priced brands on this list at $385 to $820. What you are paying for is small-batch British production, French seams, and placement in stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Net-a-Porter. Care is dry clean only, and sizing stops at XL. It is a legitimate luxury pick if editorial prestige and department-store distribution matter to you more than fabric transparency.

Natori

Natori has one real advantage over almost everyone else on this list: a plus-size range that extends to 3X, well beyond what most competitors offer. Momme weight and seam construction are not published on the brand's current site, which makes direct comparison difficult; if either matters to you, it is worth asking Natori directly before you buy. Expect pieces in the $150 to $300 range at last check, and confirm current pricing and care instructions directly with Natori.

ElleSilk

ElleSilk, whose original list of eight silk pajama brands is part of why this article exists, sells 22 momme silk pajama sets typically priced from $159 to $289, with frequent promotions bringing that lower. Sizing runs an unusually wide XXS to 3X, a genuine strength. Seam construction and machine-washability are not stated clearly on current product pages, so check both before ordering if either matters to you.

Eberjey

Eberjey's Washable Silk line is the lightest fabric on this list at 16 momme, Grade 6A mulberry silk that is sandwashed specifically to survive a cold, gentle machine cycle. Every garment is finished with French seams, and the line carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and bluesign certification, third-party checks for restricted substances that few competitors on this list mention.

A pajama set typically runs $198 to $298, and sizing spans XS to XL. What you are trading for guaranteed machine washability and certification is density: at 16 momme, it sits below the 19 to 22 momme most of this list treats as the practical floor for durability.

Julianna Rae

Julianna Rae's Natalya pajama was named a top pick for women's silk pajamas by NYT Wirecutter, a press mention the brand still features on its site as of this writing, though Wirecutter's own picks can change and this citation dates to November 2023. The brand does not publish a momme weight, and the care label calls for hand washing in lukewarm water or dry cleaning rather than machine washing.

Sizing runs XS to XXL, with a full petite range (XSP to XLP) that most of this list does not offer. A set runs $310 to $320, putting it near the top of the price range for brands that do not publish fabric density.

Which One Should You Actually Buy

If you want the densest, most durable silk with true machine washability and a size range that runs XS to 4XL, that is the case we make for Tara Sartoria, and it is worth scrolling back to the comparison table above before assuming it does not apply to you.

If price is your only constraint instead, start with LilySilk or Quince. Both sit in accessible territory and will tell you quickly whether silk sleepwear works for your body and your laundry routine before you spend more.

If you want the widest size range at a lower price point, SilkSilky and Natori are the strongest picks here, both extending well past standard sizing.

If you run hot at night, look for a lighter weave in the 19 to 22 momme range from any of the factory brands. If you are buying as a gift and want the safest, most forgiving fit, a robe or a full pajama set from a brand with generous sizing and easy returns tends to outperform anything fitted.

If prestige and department-store polish matter more than fabric specification, Olivia von Halle is built for that customer, and the price reflects it.

If certifications matter to you as much as the wash cycle, Eberjey's Washable Silk line is OEKO-TEX and bluesign certified, though it is also the lightest silk on this list. If third-party press validation matters more than a published spec sheet, Julianna Rae's Natalya was a NYT Wirecutter pick, with the tradeoff that the brand does not publish momme weight and does not recommend machine washing.

Guidance: The right first pajama is the long-sleeve set in heavy mulberry silk, sized for the body and worn through the rest of the year. The pajama pant on its own is the safer entry point if you are not sure about full-set fit.

Why We Publish Comparisons Like This

Publishing an honest breakdown of nine other brands is a strange thing for a competitor to do, and we get asked why fairly often. The answer is that customers who read a specification table before buying are the customers who keep the product.

Someone who buys a lighter silk expecting it to perform like a denser, artisan-made weight may be disappointed by year two, and that disappointment often gets pointed at silk sleepwear in general rather than at momme weight specifically. We would rather point a reader toward the brand that is honestly a better fit for them than win a sale from someone who bought the wrong thing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Tara Sartoria different from the other brands on this list?

Density and construction, mainly. Tara Sartoria pieces are made one piece at a time by master artisans in Vietnam's historic silk villages at 27 momme, roughly 20 to 40 percent denser than the 19 to 22 momme most brands on this list use, finished with French seams and sized XS to 4XL. It is a genuinely different product, not just a different price point, and it is not the right fit for every buyer.

What momme weight should silk pajamas be?

For genuine durability, look for at least 19 momme, the practical floor for legitimate silk brands. 22 momme is a reasonable mid-range choice for most sleepers. Artisan-weight silk in the high 20s momme range, rarely used because it is slower to produce, drapes heavier, resists pilling longer, and holds color better over years of wear. Below 19 momme, silk tends to feel thin and wears out faster regardless of brand.

Is LilySilk or Lunya better for silk pajamas?

They serve different priorities. LilySilk has the wider catalog and lower entry price, with momme weight varying by line. Lunya has strong name recognition and helped popularize the "washable silk" category, with silk at a lighter 19 momme and frequent promotional pricing. Neither brand publishes French seam construction. Choose based on whether catalog breadth or brand recognition matters more to you.

Why do some silk pajama brands not publish their momme weight?

Heritage, editorial, and press-endorsed silk brands, including Olivia von Halle and Julianna Rae, often compete on prestige, distribution, or third-party recognition like a Wirecutter pick, rather than technical specification, so momme weight is not always part of the marketing. That does not mean the silk is poor quality, but it does mean you cannot directly compare fabric density against brands that do publish the number. If specification transparency matters to you, ask the brand directly before buying.

Can all of these silk pajama brands be machine washed?

No. Machine washability depends on both the silk's weight and the seam construction, not the brand's marketing language. Quince, Eberjey, and Tara Sartoria state machine washability clearly. Lunya recommends a delicates bag. SilkSilky and Olivia von Halle recommend hand washing or dry cleaning, as does Julianna Rae. Natori and ElleSilk do not clearly state machine-wash instructions on current product pages, so check the label before you wash.
