"I wanted to wait to review this until I’d washed it a couple of times and it’s held up really well. I’m not a seamstress, but the stitching seems excellent. Very sturdy. What I really love are the ties: one inner tie, one outer, and one attached belt. I’ve done housework and taken naps in this thing and it never falls open."

      Frequently Asked Questions

      1. I am in between sizes: M and L, should I order size M or L?
We recommend that you do not size up because our clothing is loose-cut, as silk does not stretch. Therefore, if you are in between sizes M and L, we suggest ordering size M.
      2. What does it mean that your silk is 27 momme?
Momme is a standard measurement that indicates the weight of silk. The higher the momme, the higher the weight, quality and consequently durability. Our artisan mulberry silk is 27 momme, which is over 40% more silk than the 19 momme silk often used for mass-produced silk garments.
      3. Why does your silk not need to be dry cleaned?
Our silk is produced using traditional artisan methods dating back to the 9th century, allowing it to be washed like it has been for thousands of years, without the need for dry cleaning and its harsh chemicals.
      4. Is it true I can machine-wash this silk? How?
Yes, our thicker 27 momme artisan handmade silk is durable and machine washable. Place it in a laundry mesh bag to protect it from other items, then wash it on delicate or hand wash cycle using a detergent and softener for delicates. Tara recommends washing silk with shampoo and conditioner to maintain its lustre and softness. Simply add 1 tbsp of shampoo and 1 tbsp conditioner to 1 cup of water, add to your washing machine, and wash on a delicate cycle.
      5. I really dislike ironing! Will I end up having to constantly iron these silk garments?
Tara and many of us here at Tara Sartoria share your dislike of ironing, and that's precisely why we love silk! Silk's lightness allows body heat to naturally soften and remove wrinkles over time. So, in reality, all you need is a quick steam, or none at all if it's sleepwear. Additionally, washing silk with shampoo and conditioner can result in fewer wrinkles when drying.
      6. What is the deal with French seams?
French seams are a high-end finishing method used in haute couture and luxury garments. It takes about twice as long to make the garment and more fabric because the seams are sewn twice. But, the result is a durable garment with a polished appearance inside and out.
      7. Can I wear this daily?
Yes, our customers report that our silk items are sturdy and durable, making them suitable for daily wear without concerns about tearing.

      Luxurious and beautifully sewn

I've only ever owned satin robes, so this is my first true silk experience. At the onset, it doesn't have the lightweight smoothness of polyester satin. However, I'm learning with the quality of this silk, it's denser and more thickly woven. At a 27 momme count, it's a very high-grade mulberry silk. There is so much care in every stitch. There are no loose threads - the inside is sewn as neatly as the exterior. It's thick for the material, so it's warm and comforting for this early fall. The size is more of a comfortable fit. It comes in its own silk bag and a hair-tie gift. Thoughtful all around.

Impeccably made thick silk robe. Priced way cheaper than it should be.

I'm a silk product snob, and own literally hundreds of silk scarves, lingerie pieces, blouses. Some cost a fortune and some are relatively cheap, but I can definitely tell a quality piece from trash. Well, this robe is excellent. The tailoring is impeccable: all seams are made in French fashion, so they're all hidden and you don't see any stitching and no visible edges of fabric. This is difficult and tedious work to perform, and I can't praise enough the tailor who did such an excellent job. The material is thick mulberry silk, it's cooling in the summer and strangely warm in the winter, but very breathable. Inside the garment the silk is more shiny and outside is a muted "brushed" finish. The color is deep navy. So on some photos it shows like bright Royal Blue, please ignore that. The true color of the piece is accurate to the photos on the website. It's dark deep navy blue. My camera isn't doing it the best justice. The robe is ample cut, the sleeves are wide and loose, there's plenty of room for a belly and butt, and more to spare. There are two sets of thin ties for each flap of the robe and a wide belt, which is fixed in the back. If you figure the ties and tie them properly this robe will never flap open on its own. There are two deep pockets on each side, they can fit my massive cellphone no problem. For reference, I'm 5'5" 160lb, got size L. The garment came in a small matching silk pouch, also sewn with French seams, and a matching hair scrunchie, very useful and awesome for the hair health. The garment came with a nicely printed set of care instructions and a little story about the company. Honestly, this is worth the money. Actually I think it's way undervalued, and I would pay close to $250 - 300 for the quality I got. The fact that the piece is handmade, the supreme materials, the attention to detail, all make it worthwhile.

      Very nice, robe

Well, this is a very nice high in robe, the cost is very expensive. I like that it has pockets and ties to keep the robe closed. The world is very soft and silky. The best part is that there is a paper that says 100% of the proceeds go to Women business owners. And for that, I give it five stars.

      Genuine silk robe

I’ve been ordering genuine silk garments from Tara Sartoria for about 18 months now. I appreciate that the company is woman-owned and operated and uses their profits to support other women. The quality of the garments has only improved while I've been a customer. The French seams add luxury and longevity. The fabric this robe is made of is thick and robust. The inside ties help keep it closed so you can move around and do things without having to constantly readjust it. The belt is attached at the back, so you won't lose it or have to recenter it all the time. The pockets are generously sized and actually useful. I LOVE the thin silk scrunchie that was included for free, and the silk pouch is also a luxurious touch, but I have no idea what to do with it.

      very nice morning gawn

The gawn comes in a very nice small pouch. The silky touch feels like real silk. The gawn is soft and lovely. I liked it very much.
