About Tara
Tara Nguyen is the Founder and Creative Director of Tara Sartoria, founded in 2020 in Chicago.
She holds a PhD in Information Systems from Curtin University of Technology in Australia and was awarded the Newton International Postdoctoral Fellowship by the British Academy and the Royal Society, based in London, UK. Her research examined how technology and women's entrepreneurship support poverty alleviation, with fieldwork across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. That work took her to 23 countries consulting for the United Nations, USAID, and the Asian Development Bank.
She grew up near a 1,000-year-old silk village in Vietnam, where her grandmother's most prized possessions were silk garments. That heritage, combined with 15 years of field research in artisan craft, women's entrepreneurship, and ethical production, is what Tara Sartoria is built on.
Every garment is individually crafted by artisans in Vietnam's historic silk villages using 27 momme artisan mulberry silk of Grade 6A equivalent quality, woven on traditional looms. French seams throughout. Machine washable. Sizes XS to 4XL.
10% of every purchase funds university scholarships and microfinance loans for women in disadvantaged communities.
Tara Sartoria has been featured by Oprah Daily, FashionBeans, and GQ Australia.
