What does 27 momme silk mean, and why does it matter?

Silk is measured by weight per square inch. Most silk on the market is light and mass produced at 19 momme. Ours is handmade at 27 momme, 40% more silk. The heavier the silk, the better it drapes, the longer it holds its color, the less it pills, and the longer it lasts. You feel the difference the moment you pick a piece up.

How does this compare to satin?

Satin is a weave, usually made from polyester. Silk is a natural fiber. Polyester satin traps heat, pills quickly, and feels different against the skin within an hour of wearing it. Mulberry silk breathes, regulates temperature, and gets softer with wear.
