Oprah Daily's pick for Best Handmade Silk Robe, chosen for the kind of quality that speaks for itself.

The jacquard weave is a different argument for silk. Where plain weaves earn their place through drape and weight, the jacquard earns it through surface. The pattern is woven into the fabric, not printed on top of it. It catches light differently depending on how you move.

Made from 27 momme mulberry silk of Grade 6A equivalent quality, woven on traditional looms in Vietnam's historic silk villages and individually crafted by artisans with French seams throughout. At 27 momme, the silk is 20 to 40% denser than the 19 to 22 momme standard. Long length with pockets, two sets of inner ties, and a silk storage pouch included. Machine washable on a delicate cycle. Available in sizes XS to 4XL.

Sizing

Silk does not stretch, so we cut
everything loose on purpose. A true-to-size fit drapes the way real silk is
meant to: skimming the body, never clinging to it. Order the size you normally
wear. If you are between two sizes, size down for a more tailored line, or stay
true for something more relaxed.

We make XS to 4XL. Same silk at
every size. Same French seams. Same quality. Because luxury should be for
everyone.

The size guide above has
chest, waist, and length in inches and centimeters.

  • Free shipping on US orders over $130 and arrives in five to eight business days, after a one to two day handling window.
If you need it sooner, expedited shipping is two to four business days at
    checkout.

they are free. Email care@tarasartoria.com within 30 days of delivery with your
order number, and we send you a prepaid return label and your replacement at no

    find the right size.

Material and Care

Most silk on the market is
light. Ours is significantly heavier, which is the part you feel the moment you
pick a piece up: more silk per square inch, denser drape, smoother hand, far
less prone to pilling. It is the difference between silk that flatters a hanger
and silk that flatters a person.

It is woven on traditional looms
in Vietnam’s historic silk villages, then individually crafted into each
garment with French seams throughout. French seams enclose the raw edge of the
fabric inside a second, hidden seam. They take twice as long to sew and use
more fabric, which is why most brands skip them. They are also why our silk
survives the washing machine.

To care for it, slip the garment
into the silk pouch your order arrived in (or any mesh laundry bag), wash cold
on a delicate cycle with a gentle detergent, and lay it flat to dry. No bleach.
No dry cleaner. A care card is included in every order, in case you misplace
these instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Is this silk really machine
washable?

Yes. Slip the garment into the
silk pouch it arrived in, run a cold delicate cycle with a gentle detergent, and lay it flat to dry. No dry cleaner, ever. The reason it survives the washing machine is the construction: French seams throughout, woven and sewn the way silk has been cared for at home for centuries.

Why does silk this nice not
need dry cleaning?

Because it is built for daily life, not a glass case. Silk has been washed at home for thousands of years.
Dry cleaning is a fix for cheap construction and synthetic finishes, not a feature of real silk. Ours is woven on traditional looms and individually crafted with French seams that hold up to a washing machine.

What does “premium-density”
mean, and why does it matter?

Silk is measured by weight per square inch. Most silk on the market is light. Ours is significantly heavier.
The heavier the silk, the better it drapes, the longer it holds its color, the less it pills, and the longer it lasts. You feel the difference the moment you pick a piece up.

I am between sizes. Should I
size up?

No. Our cut is already loose, because silk does not stretch. Order the size you normally wear. If you want a more tailored line, size down. If you want more room, stay true.

Do you make silk for men?

Yes. Roughly two thirds of our customers are men. Pajamas, robes, boxers, and shirts in XS to 4XL. The same silk, the same French seams, the same care.

Will I have to iron it?

Almost never. Body heat softens silk wrinkles within minutes of wearing it, and a quick steam handles the rest.
If it is sleepwear, you can usually skip both. We share your dislike of ironing, which is part of why we love silk.

What are French seams, and
why do you use them?

A French seam encloses the raw edge of the fabric inside a second, hidden seam. The garment is finished inside and out, with no exposed threads anywhere. It takes twice as long to sew and uses more fabric, which is why most brands skip it. Turn any of our pieces inside out and look. That is not a marketing phrase, it is a construction
standard you can verify.

Is this silk suitable for
sensitive skin?

Yes. Mulberry silk is naturally hypoallergenic and temperature regulating, and ours is free from the harsh chemicals used in dry cleaning and synthetic finishes. Many of our customers with eczema and skin sensitivities tell us it is the first fabric they have been able to sleep in comfortably.

Can I wear this every day?

Yes. Our customers tell us they wear the same robe and pajama sets multiple times a week for years. The density
is the durability.

How does this compare to
satin?

Satin is a weave, usually made from polyester. Silk is a natural fiber. Polyester satin traps heat, pills quickly, and feels different against the skin within an hour of wearing it. Mulberry silk breathes, regulates temperature, and gets softer with wear.

Are these giftable?

Yes, and the gift wrapping is part of the gift. Every piece arrives in an artisan-crafted silk pouch you can reuse as a wash bag, a travel pouch, or a storage pouch.

What is the silk pouch that
comes with my order?

Instead of a disposable cardboard box, every Tara Sartoria piece arrives wrapped in a handcrafted silk pouch. It is the gift wrapping, the wash bag we recommend for machine-washing your silk, and a travel or storage pouch. One object, three jobs, no waste.

Do you offer free returns?

Free exchanges within 30 days on U.S. orders, including a prepaid label both ways. Standard returns are also welcome within 30 days with no restocking fee, but customers cover shipping unless the item arrived defective. Email care@tarasartoria.com to start either one.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. International shipping is a flat $35 and takes roughly two weeks. Because each piece is individually crafted in limited quantities, we cannot accept international returns or exchanges, so please email Tara at care@tarasartoria.com before you order and she will help you find the right size.

LUXURIOUS, AND EXPENSIVE FEELING!!!

This silk robe does not disappoint. It is so beautifully made down to every detail. The French seams are impeccable. The robe comes with a handwritten note from the owner of the company as well as a tag with the name and a thank you from the person who made the robe. Also, information about the company and how it helps women. The robe has a tie inside and the outside so it can be closed securely as well as comes with a belt and has belt loops. The subtle print on the black silk it very beautiful. It comes in a matching silk pouch so it was pretty wrinkled when arrived but after hanging for a little bit a lot of the wrinkles came out. I love that it is machine washable too. This robe is a very high quality garment and with proper care I see it lasting for years to come. (Mrs. Valiant)

Exceeds Expectations

I have a big trip coming up that I needed a new robe for, which is why this beauty caught my eye. As you can imagine, I was thrilled to find it arrived in a matching silk travel pouch! This is the perfect piece for packing. The fabric is soft, with a luxurious sheen and a very attractive jacquard pattern. (I ordered the black.) To me the price is great for a robe of this quality. Honestly, I am not sure that i could go and buy this much silk for the cost of this robe. I paid almost as much for a satin one as a gift for someone last Christmas, and this is much nicer. One size fits all can be scary. It fit me quite well. I am 5'8" and somewhat slim. Size 4. On my frame the robe is calf length. There was plenty of fabric to wrap around me. I would say it could easily fit someone my height who was up to a size 18. The style is a traditional Japanese yukata or kimono style, which pretty much looks great on anyone. The silk is so lightweight that when tied is doesn't add a lot of bulk to your middle. And silk is perfect for any kind of mild temperature. This is easy to throw on, and when I do, it adds a nice note of glamour to my decidedly unglamourous days. The owner of the company put a nice note into the order. It felt heartfelt, and true. She presented herself as someone who takes pride in what she and the workers in her company produce, and as someone who wants to give back. Maybe I am a little corny, but I like that.

Soooo amazing!!!!

It feels so soft! This is the most amazing thing I have ever worn. Also every purchase goes towards a charity that helps women break the cycle of poverty.

Fits 2xl woman, gorgeous woven paisley pattern

I'm 5'8" 210lbs, and round in the middle, this fits me but will open up at the crotch leg area when seated, so take caution. The front flaps when crossed over are 4" from the side seams. This 100% silk robe has a lovely paisley pattern woven in and is slightly textured on both sides. This has thin and long ties for both flap closures, also a wider removable waist belt. I'm am pleased with this gorgeous lightweight and cool robe, although I am definitely towards the higher end of the one size fits all, I don't think a 3xl would fit in it. Hopefully this was helpful, Thank you!

Huge robe

If you're looking for a large robe with amazing details this is what you want. The silk is hand made and very detailed. It is soft and cool to touch. I am 5 foot tall and it almost touches the floor. I wish I knew it'd be so long so I could've chosen something different. It almost looks funny when I wear it.

Beautifully made

I'm going to start with the one negative it fits but doesn't close but thats my size lol im 3-4x BTW. But I dont care this is absolutely beautiful, so soft, lovely print. The bag it came in is beautiful. The seller even left 2 great thank you notes. You can tell they took their time with making the product as well as the packaging and is already having great customer service by the quality of their product.

Beautiful

This is beautiful and very well made, but it will swallow you if you're slim or short. I'm 5'6", size XS/S/2/4 and this is huge on me and the sleeves go almost to my wrists. The seams are all finished which is not something I'm used to, but I like it. The pattern on the fabric is lovely even if the color makes it hard to see. It comes out of the washing machine looking just as great as it did going in.

So luxurious

I feel like royalty when I wear this! It's so soft and luxurious, made with care and attention to detail without being garish or over the top. Understated style for days I feel like pampering myself a little extra! I usually wear a small or medium in women's clothes, but I feel like the sizing of this robe would fit anyone from an XS to an XL easily thanks to its tie closure. I've ordered other items from Tara Sartoria before and they seem to be a brand focused on quality and also ethical production, so I'm happy to support them - each item comes with a handwritten note explaining how the business model supports the women who craft their products. I'd certainly order again, for myself or as a gift!

I feel luxurious

It's not as soft as I expected but I've never owned anything 100% mulberry silk before either. Regardless I feel like I belong on Bailey Sarian's youtube dark history couch with this on AKA I feel expensive, luxurious as one should.

Beautiful

This robe is sewn really well. It is long, comes to my shins and I’m 5’8. It’s expensive but it’s worth it.

Beautifully detailed jacquard silk

This is a lovely, elegant robe. It fits comfortably and feels light as air. The pattern is beautiful, but it's important to note that the overall texture is not smooth charmeuse. I steamed it before wearing and it actually seemed to soften further. It drapes beautifully and feels very secure when tied. This is a great piece to treasure.

Beautiful silk robe.

This is a beautiful robe from Tara Sartoria. The fabric is stunning - made of 27 grade momme 100% natural mulberry silk. It has a luxurious and lightweight feel that is a joy to wear. I chose the "Black Peacock" style and the hand-loomed jacquard silk is really showcased. It has a beautiful subtle pattern and sheen that adds visual interest to the otherwise neutral black. It was sewn with care with French seaming and no loose threads or crooked seams. It's excellent quality and I expect it to last a long time. This robe also came packaged in a drawstring pouch made of the same wonderful silk fabric. It makes for a nice presentation as well as handy for packing. Because this robe is so lightweight, it's ideal for taking on trips to add a bit of luxury. This is a "one-size fits most" robe. For reference, I am 5'5" tall 110 lbs. 30D with a straight body type and long limbs with a short torso. I typically wear a size 0 or XXS-XS in clothing. I was a bit concerned that this robe would be way too big on me but the cut and feature of the inner ties and belt strap make it very adjustable. It has a traditional Japanese kimono shape and looks very flattering on my small frame. I love the look and feel of this robe.

Soft and luxe...

I LOVE this robe. I would have liked it to be a tad smaller but for being a "one size", it still works. I am 5'2", 28" waist, and 130ish lbs. The inside ties are spaced too far for me to use so I simply cross the front and tie the sash at the waist. I machine wash and tumble dry it without it shrinking, pilling, or fading. I would recommend either washing it alone or in a zipper bag to prevent anything from catching on the embroidery-style flower pattern. The fabric is beautiful and it is very soft. Drapes perfectly. Medium weight so it doesn't feel flimsy at all. I have another robe like this but the fabric on that one feels cold while this one doesn't. Overall, this is an excellent robe and I am very pleased with it. At the time of this review there wasn't a retail price listed so I cannot comment on value but the quality is excellent.

Beautifully handmade by a women owned business

The Artisan Handmade Silk Robe – Tara Sartoria – 100% Natural Mulberry Silk 27 Momme, Silk Kimo is really well made out of beautifully patterned silk. The silk is really nice- medium weight with a soft and smooth hand feel and a brocade pattern with paisleys and flowers. The silk fabric is hand loomed in a centuries old tradition and just feels very high quality. The robe itself is beautifully sewn with french seams and every edge completely finished. This robe is going to last many years of wear. There are ties at the waist and a separate belt for different ways to secure the robe for wearing. The robe size is not huge but it is generous enough to fit even a large size woman. The robe can be either hand washed or machine washed on delicate. It even comes with a little silk travel bag that you can roll the robe up in to carry with you or store it. I really like this robe and plan on wearing it all spring and summer.

Lovely, but feels stiff and rough due to the pattern.

I love silk for it's flowy movement and softness, but this robe doesn't quite meet up to those details. The flower pattern formed into the fabric throws off some of the qualities that I love about silk. However, this robe is quite beautiful, and fits me quite well. I'm 5'4", 150 lbs, 36B/31/39 and this robe has plenty of room to cover me. I like that it comes far down my calves for modesty and a bit of draft-blocking when it's still cool out. This robe comes in a lovely little silk bag, and it was scented with something pleasant- reminding me quite a bit of the soap bars I keep in my drawers to fragrance my underthings. I launder this robe on cold/delicate in the machine and hang-dry it, and it's still perfect. This robe is well made, with excellent seaming. Though I'm not a fan of the texture of this robe- it's still very beautiful, and I prefer wearing silk for its beneficial properties for skin. lovely robe

This robe is pretty and fits me (female, 5'6" size 12) well. The pattern of the silk is attractive and it is thick enough to conceal rather than reveal. I do have a few issues with this robe though. First, the fabric is stiffer than the soft, fluid feel of other silk garments I have. The string ties for securing the robe are placed for a man's robe (crossing to the left) rather than a woman's. Finally there are no belt loops on the outside of the robe so I am concerned that the belt will often go astray between wearings or if I want to wear the robe open.

Complete Your Set

A jacquard robe asks for something plain to sit against. The nightgown is that plain thing, in the same silk.
