Yes, for 27 momme artisan mulberry silk. Use a delicate cycle, cool or warm water (maximum 30°C), and pH-neutral detergent. Do not tumble dry. Lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight. Lighter silk weights (under 22 momme) are more vulnerable to machine washing and may require hand washing.

What is momme weight in silk?

Momme is the traditional Japanese unit of silk fabric weight. One momme equals 4.34 grams per square metre. Higher momme means denser, heavier fabric with greater durability. The standard luxury range is 19 to 22 momme. Premium artisan silk sleepwear uses 25 to 30 momme. Tara Sartoria uses 27 momme throughout.

What makes 27 momme silk different from standard silk?

27 momme silk is 20 to 40% denser than the 19 to 22 momme standard used by most luxury brands. That density means the fabric holds its structure, resists clinging, and survives regular machine washing without degrading. Tara Sartoria silk is of Grade 6A equivalent quality, woven on traditional looms in Vietnam's historic silk villages.

What are French seams and why do they matter?

A French seam is a two-stage construction that completely encloses the raw fabric edge within the seam structure. Both stitch lines bear structural load, making French seams significantly more resistant to lateral stress than single-stitched seams. French seam construction takes two to three times longer per garment. Tara Sartoria uses French seams throughout every garment.

What detergent should I use for silk?

Use a pH-neutral, silk-safe detergent such as Woolite or The Laundress Delicate Wash. Avoid standard laundry detergents (alkaline, pH 9 to 11) and biological detergents (enzyme-based). Both cause protein fiber degradation over repeated wash cycles.

What sizes does Tara Sartoria offer?

Tara Sartoria makes sizes XS to 4XL. Every size receives the same 27 momme artisan mulberry silk and the same French seam construction. Luxury that does not fit is not luxury.

Comfortable, extremely well-crafted, great for travel

I now have three pieces (all black): men’s long-sleeve shirt, shorts and pyjama trousers. All are easy to care for, travel compactly, and are extremely well made and comfortable. As Tara herself points out, the only downside, if it even is one, is that silk doesn’t stretch. That doesn’t bother me in the least - the items all fit comfortably and loosely. Imfind them “true-to-size” (I’m 6’3”, 210lb and the XL fits perfectly). If in any doubt about sizing, just send Tara an e-mail with all your dimensions- she will steer you tomthe right size or have a custom fit made.

Very high-quality silk

These fit perfectly and are very luxurious. This is a premium silk with excellent stitching. And not thin at all. This breathes well and stays‘s cool in the hot temperatures but keeps you warm when it’s chilly. The price is high but that’s what you pay for getting really good silk. I am absolutely pleased.
