A band collar blouse removes the need to decide between buttoned and open. It reads as complete without a collar spread, intentional without a scarf to fill the neckline. A specific choice that works in both professional and casual contexts.
Made from 27 momme mulberry silk of Grade 6A equivalent quality, woven on heritage looms in Vietnam's historic silk villages and made one piece at a time by artisans with French seams throughout. At 27 momme, the silk is 20 to 40% denser than the 19 to 22 momme standard. Machine washable on a delicate cycle. Available in sizes XS to 4XL.

Silk does not stretch, so we cut
everything loose on purpose. A true-to-size fit drapes the way real silk is
meant to: skimming the body, never clinging to it. Order the size you normally
wear. If you are between two sizes, size down for a more tailored line, or stay
true for something more relaxed.
We make XS to 4XL. Same silk at
every size. Same French seams. Same quality. Because luxury should be for
everyone.
The size guide above has
chest, waist, and length in inches and centimeters.
Shipping and Returns
Shipping and Returns
- Free shipping on US orders over $130 and arrives in five to eight business days, after a one to two day handling window.
If you need it sooner, expedited shipping is two to four business days at
checkout. - Exchanges are the easy path, and
they are free. Email care@tarasartoria.com within 30 days of delivery with your
order number, and we send you a prepaid return label and your replacement at no
cost. Items need to come back unworn, unwashed, and with their tags. - Returns are also welcome within
30 days, with no restocking fee. For straight returns, customers cover the
original and return shipping unless the piece arrived defective or we sent the
wrong thing. Refunds land five to seven business days after we receive and
inspect the return. - International orders ship for a
flat $35 and take roughly two weeks. Because each piece is individually crafted
in limited quantities, we cannot accept international returns or exchanges, so
please email care@tarasartoria.com before you order. Tara herself will help you
find the right size. - Orders can be cancelled or
changed within 12 hours of purchase, before they ship.
Material and Care
Material and Care
Most silk on the market is
light. Ours is significantly heavier, which is the part you feel the moment you
pick a piece up: more silk per square inch, denser drape, smoother hand, far
less prone to pilling. It is the difference between silk that flatters a hanger
and silk that flatters a person.
It is woven on traditional looms
in Vietnam’s historic silk villages, then individually crafted into each
garment with French seams throughout. French seams enclose the raw edge of the
fabric inside a second, hidden seam. They take twice as long to sew and use
more fabric, which is why most brands skip them. They are also why our silk
survives the washing machine.
To care for it, slip the garment
into the silk pouch your order arrived in (or any mesh laundry bag), wash cold
on a delicate cycle with a gentle detergent, and lay it flat to dry. No bleach.
No dry cleaner. A care card is included in every order, in case you misplace
these instructions.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Is this silk really machine
washable?
Yes. Slip the garment into the
silk pouch it arrived in, run a cold delicate cycle with a gentle detergent, and lay it flat to dry. No dry cleaner, ever. The reason it survives the washing machine is the construction: French seams throughout, woven and sewn the way silk has been cared for at home for centuries.
Why does silk this nice not
need dry cleaning?
Because it is built for daily life, not a glass case. Silk has been washed at home for thousands of years.
Dry cleaning is a fix for cheap construction and synthetic finishes, not a feature of real silk. Ours is woven on traditional looms and individually crafted with French seams that hold up to a washing machine.
What does “premium-density”
mean, and why does it matter?
Silk is measured by weight per square inch. Most silk on the market is light. Ours is significantly heavier.
The heavier the silk, the better it drapes, the longer it holds its color, the less it pills, and the longer it lasts. You feel the difference the moment you pick a piece up.
I am between sizes. Should I
size up?
No. Our cut is already loose, because silk does not stretch. Order the size you normally wear. If you want a more tailored line, size down. If you want more room, stay true.
Do you make silk for men?
Yes. Roughly two thirds of our customers are men. Pajamas, robes, boxers, and shirts in XS to 4XL. The same silk, the same French seams, the same care.
Will I have to iron it?
Almost never. Body heat softens silk wrinkles within minutes of wearing it, and a quick steam handles the rest.
If it is sleepwear, you can usually skip both. We share your dislike of ironing, which is part of why we love silk.
What are French seams, and
why do you use them?
A French seam encloses the raw edge of the fabric inside a second, hidden seam. The garment is finished inside and out, with no exposed threads anywhere. It takes twice as long to sew and uses more fabric, which is why most brands skip it. Turn any of our pieces inside out and look. That is not a marketing phrase, it is a construction
standard you can verify.
Is this silk suitable for
sensitive skin?
Yes. Mulberry silk is naturally hypoallergenic and temperature regulating, and ours is free from the harsh chemicals used in dry cleaning and synthetic finishes. Many of our customers with eczema and skin sensitivities tell us it is the first fabric they have been able to sleep in comfortably.
Can I wear this every day?
Yes. Our customers tell us they wear the same robe and pajama sets multiple times a week for years. The density
is the durability.
How does this compare to
satin?
Satin is a weave, usually made from polyester. Silk is a natural fiber. Polyester satin traps heat, pills quickly, and feels different against the skin within an hour of wearing it. Mulberry silk breathes, regulates temperature, and gets softer with wear.
Are these giftable?
Yes, and the gift wrapping is part of the gift. Every piece arrives in an artisan-crafted silk pouch you can reuse as a wash bag, a travel pouch, or a storage pouch.
What is the silk pouch that
comes with my order?
Instead of a disposable cardboard box, every Tara Sartoria piece arrives wrapped in a handcrafted silk pouch. It is the gift wrapping, the wash bag we recommend for machine-washing your silk, and a travel or storage pouch. One object, three jobs, no waste.
Do you offer free returns?
Free exchanges within 30 days on U.S. orders, including a prepaid label both ways. Standard returns are also welcome within 30 days with no restocking fee, but customers cover shipping unless the item arrived defective. Email care@tarasartoria.com to start either one.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. International shipping is a flat $35 and takes roughly two weeks. Because each piece is individually crafted in limited quantities, we cannot accept international returns or exchanges, so please email Tara at care@tarasartoria.com before you order and she will help you find the right size.

I can’t say enough nice things about this shirt! First of all, the presentation. It comes in a wonderful little silk bag with information on the company and a silk scrunchie for your hair. Secondly, the material. The silk is heavenly. So soft and silky, it feels amazing on. Most comfortable button down shirt I have ever owned! I am excited to always wear this to my business meetings. Thirdly, the look. It looks wonderful. I got a medium and it fits very loose, but in a sleek way. (I usually wear a medium.) The buttons are super high quality, but thin material so it does not puff out. There is not the standard fold down collar, but instead a trimmed neck, which I actually prefer. The back is a little longer than the front which looks very slimming, and it looks great untucked. It does have creases from being folded, so it needs to be steamed. I wore it out of bag with the creases and it still looks great. This shirt is definitely worth the price tag, if you want to invest in a wonderful and comfortable professional shirt. I absolutely love it.
This is how it arrived. Very wrinkly, but a steam iron helped that fast. The material feels so soft and silky. It is pricey, but you can tell how nice the quality is. I love how the buttons are double so you can have pull and see inside your shirt. The color is beautiful. It says, "pink", but it has a little rose/plum to it. Very pretty. It is a little big on me. Perfect for work so excited to start wearing it during the Holidays too.
This shirt is probably this nicest thing in my closet. It is so nicely made. The material is soft. If you’re looking for a high quality silk blouse this one will not disappoint. It came in a silk gift bag. It would make a great Christmas present. It’s gorgeous! Side note I haven’t ironed it because I’m afraid I’m going to ruin it. I’m going to drop it off at the dry cleaners to be pressed to I can wear it.
I love the fabric, color, finish, cut and design of this blouse. The quality is superior with a beautiful sheen. I was debating between blue and white for quite a while. Both look great.
I loved this shirt because this color is beautiful the picture doesn’t do it justice. It was a bit big and I have to reduce it to my size otherwise it’s good
This blouse fits me perfectly! It looks much more expensive than it is! Luxurious silk with a lovely sheen to it. It is a classic fit. It fits on the loose side but hangs well and drapes beautifully, like how a good silk shirt should. I feel elegant and comfortable wearing it. The color is a beautiful deep blue that goes with everything I own. The silk feels soft, thick & luxurious. I can dress it up with heels and jeans, or wear it casual, untucked with leggings. The drop hem is very cute! The stitching is impeccable. Also it washes well. It came in a silk gift bag, would make a great gift.
I’m really impressed with the feel and material. I love this blouse, and I bought my normal size. At 5‘,9“, 155 pounds, there is always the risk that they arms will not be long enough, and that’s definitely the case here. The shirt is generously cut – so much that I thought it was way too big when I pulled it out of the packaging. But in actuality, it’s probably exactly my size, it’s just that it isn’t a very narrow cut in the waist or hips. The thing is, it looks like a more narrow cut in the product photos. In fact, it’s quite boxy. What I am truly impressed with is that they’re dead serious about no chest gaps. I get that obnoxious gap in literally every button down shirt I have. I am much larger in the chest and then I seem to be anywhere else, so this is a big issue for me, but due to some magic in the way that it’s cut, along with three upper buttons in fairly close (but not too close) succession, I wasn’t able to reproduce that obnoxious chest gap no matter how I buttoned it. So bravo for that. Given the quality of the material, I’m considering having it altered so it fits me a little better. As for the sleeves, I would like them also taken in, because they are a bit baggy as well. I wish they offered a slimmer cut to this blouse, or a more feminine fit, but kudos on solving the chest button problem.
I forgot that silk wrinkles easily when folded... as you can see from the picture taken of the shirt right out of its packaging. I've since washed it and hung it and it will need a good ironing. It's a thick material. If you want something like a satin shirt, this looks like it but is definitely heavier. I have wide shoulders so I often have to order a size up (reference: 38 B bust, ordered L), which makes the fit looser than what you see on the model in the description photo. The colour is more muted than the description photo but I am definitely okay with this. I gave this 4 stars because it works for me.
Cute overall, I thought it will be a little more silky, it was thicker then expected but still looks really nice and comfy to the skin. Basic nice button down
This came in a little bit big for my wife. She likes the color but it doesn't seem like it's going to work for her.
I love the way it was presented in it's own silk drawstring bag. The blouse is very well made and feels amazing on the skin. Looks better on and is a definite eye catcher.
The Tara Sartoria Silk Shirt for women is quite lovely. It shipped with minimal packaging. It was presented well and it didn't put off any weird or chemical-like odors. I'm five foot two and a half inches tall, 130 lbs, and sport a curvy pear-shaped figure. I typically wear small/medium in tops and this fits me a bit wide and long. That said, I will still wear it tucked in, tied, and as an outer layer with another top beneath it. The material is amazingly smooth and soft. I love how it feels against my skin. It is not seethrough at all. I have had zero irritation from wearing it at all. The craftsmanship is excellent. There are no loose strings or off-seams, and the buttons are attached well. I like this needs no real special care for washing or drying at home. This is a lovely dress top that I can recommend but would suggest sizing it down once if you can.
I LOVE this shirt. It fit like it was made for me, and the fabric is phenomenal. When they say "handmade silk," they mean it, and now I wish I had at least five or six more colors of this same shirt, and will totally be looking out for more later. Fantastic!
Shirt comes in a silk bag that you can keep it in. It's soft, light and made well. The top has buttons up the front and is easy to throw on. It's 100 percent real silk and looks like it can be taken care of easy. Pairs nicely with any bottom and feels good on. I'd recommend your regular size if you want something more fitted and a size up if you want a little extra room.
I received the blue shirt, size medium. First, the color and quality of the shirt are nice. Because the material is silk, the shirt came rather wrinkled, but after washing and ironing it, the wrinkles lessened. Although I ordered a size medium, I thought the shirt was rather large. Unfortunately, despite my liking the color and style, the shirt is too big. If I wear the shirt under a sweater or with a cardigan, it will work just fine. The shirt came in a pretty handmade silk gift bag, which is a bonus if gifting this shirt to someone. I appreciate that this shirt is ethically and sustainably made. The price seems a bit high. Overall, this shirt is nice, but it will not fit well on petite people; consider ordering one size smaller.
