Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
1. I am in between sizes: M and L, should I order size M or L?
We recommend that you do not size up because our clothing is loose-cut, as silk does not stretch. Therefore, if you are in between sizes M and L, we suggest ordering size M.
2. What does it mean that your silk is 27 momme?
Momme is a standard measurement that indicates the weight of silk. The higher the momme, the higher the weight, quality and consequently durability. Our artisan mulberry silk is 27 momme, which is over 40% more silk than the 19 momme silk often used for mass-produced silk garments.
3. Why does your silk not need to be dry cleaned?
Our silk is produced using traditional artisan methods dating back to the 9th century, allowing it to be washed like it has been for thousands of years, without the need for dry cleaning and its harsh chemicals.
4. Is it true I can machine-wash this silk? How?
Yes, our thicker 27 momme artisan handmade silk is durable and machine washable. Place it in a laundry mesh bag to protect it from other items, then wash it on delicate or hand wash cycle using a detergent and softener for delicates. Tara recommends washing silk with shampoo and conditioner to maintain its lustre and softness. Simply add 1 tbsp of shampoo and 1 tbsp conditioner to 1 cup of water, add to your washing machine, and wash on a delicate cycle.
5. I really dislike ironing! Will I end up having to constantly iron these silk garments?
Tara and many of us here at Tara Sartoria share your dislike of ironing, and that's precisely why we love silk! Silk's lightness allows body heat to naturally soften and remove wrinkles over time. So, in reality, all you need is a quick steam, or none at all if it's sleepwear. Additionally, washing silk with shampoo and conditioner can result in fewer wrinkles when drying.
6. What is the deal with French seams?
French seams are a high-end finishing method used in haute couture and luxury garments. It takes about twice as long to make the garment and more fabric because the seams are sewn twice. But, the result is a durable garment with a polished appearance inside and out.
7. Can I wear this daily?
Yes, our customers report that our silk items are sturdy and durable, making them suitable for daily wear without concerns about tearing.

i’m 5 feet two and a size small fit me perfectly. This is the first silk robe I have bought for myself. It is excellent quality and so comfortable! I was very surprised to find that The length on me was perfect despite my height. It is a gorgeous deep blue color. I very much appreciated the detailed care instructions, and also, knowing who put love and care into making this Beautiful robe. all of this information is on the tags which are attached to the lovely silk bag that the robe is packaged in. I also love that I am supporting a small women owned business that helps to empower other women. I am very pleased with my purchase and will definitely tell others about Tara Sartoria.
I am obsessed with this kimono. It is so silky and soft and I love the material. It is a long kimono and it ties internally and externally. It is easy to wash, but please wash with darks since it will bleed onto other colors, even when you wash on cold. This is one of the nicest kimonos I have owned!
I needed a new bathrobe to replace my tattered, worn out terry-cloth robe. I have young kids so bathrobes are both a necessity and a hazard. My 2 year old tends to yank open the robe at the top or the whole robe just flaps open or unties and any hopes for modesty go out the window. This kimono style robe solves that issue with two ties - one on the inside and the other on the external side. It also has two belt loops that are pretty low for my short waisted self, but work fine with the included belt. The second belt loop on the right is immediately beside the external tie strap so it’s to miss. The material feels AMAZING and though it feels cold when I first put it on, it matches my body temperature and I feel comfortable in it even in the cold winter mornings (in my temperature controlled home). I wasn’t sure which size to order. For reference, my measurements are 36-28-36, so I am on the large side of medium or the small side of large according to their size chart. I went ahead and ordered the large and I’m glad I did. Once I tie all the straps and the belt, it’s not quite snug around my body, but if it was any tighter I would probably pull out seams and the fabric every time I sat down. I’ve owned multiple robes over the years include kimono and yukata style robes and I think this may be my new favorite. The color, the feel, the construction, and the practicality are all on point. I do have one point of feedback that is not star-losing-worthy but a mild irritation. There are no pockets. It will probably keep the robe nicer over the years as a result, but the added function would be a nice convenience. All in all, highly recommend.
The original order came with a slight defect but the second one had no issues. The silk is buttery soft and the color is so vibrant. High quality and luxurious. It’s a bigger loose fit but still flattering
Beautiful!
